Arla recalls gorgonzola in Canada over Listeria contamination fears
Ontario-based Arla Foods Inc. – Arla’s Canadian business – imported the Italy-made Mauri-brand gorgonzola cheese. In a joint statement, Arla and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) have urged people in Canada not to consume the potentially hazardous product.
“The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Arla Foods Inc. are warning the public not to consume the Mauri brand Gorgonzola cheese, product of Italy, described below because the product may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes,” said a recall notice posted on the CFIA website.
The notice warned that consuming food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may cause listeriosis – a potentially fatal foodborne illness - but confirmed that no illnesses have been linked to the cheese to-date.
"There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product,” said the notice.
“The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall,” it added.
