Ben Bouckley and Mark Astley from BeverageDaily.com and DairyReporter.com chat about technology and trends at Drinktec 2013, including the show’s growing international focus and the trend towards added-value dairy beverages.

Interesting innovations on the processing and packaging side presented in Munich (from September 16-20) included a can with an integrated ‘pop out’ straw from Ball Packaging, and GEA’s new Craft-Star brewhouse targeting higher volume craft brewers.

One fifth of the show’s visitors represented the global dairy industry, which prompted Astley to note the trend towards value-added dairy-based drinks that are aseptically packaged.

“The industry’s moving from age-old core commodity products to high-protein products, flavored milks enriched with protein, etc.” Astley says.
