The Technology Evaluation and License Option Agreement means the two companies will work together for 12 months to evaluate REV technology for the dehydration of certain products.
EnWave has four REV technologies: nutraREV for fruits, vegetables, spices, herbs, dairy, meat, seafood; quantaREV for fragile solid products, gels, liquids, or encapsulated products laid out in trays; powderREV for temperature-sensitive bacteria, probiotics, enzymes; and freezeREV (still in the pilot-stage) for bio-materials such as vaccines and antibodies.
Brent Charleton, SVP, business development, EnWave, told FoodQualityNews, this will be the second R&D project it has initiated with Nestlé.
“The first began over five years ago, before our Radiant Energy Vacuum (REV) technology had been established in a meaningful way commercially,” he said.
“This new project has been initiated with a new group from Nestlé, focusing on a new produce area, which remains anonymous for now.
“Our REV technology has made significant advancements over the past three years and to date EnWave has now signed over 20 exclusive licenses for its use.”
He added, EnWave is primed for another commercial initiative in the next 12 months.
Global dairy companies
“We are currently working with several of the top 10 global dairy companies, many leading regional meat processors and country specific leaders in fruit and vegetable production. I hope to announce new ‘big name’ partnerships within the year,” said Charleton.
EnWave Corporation, a Vancouver-based advanced technology company, has granted Nestec an option to exclusively license its REV technology should the outcome of the evaluation be successful.
Its REV technology’s commercial viability is growing rapidly across several market verticals in the food and pharmaceutical sectors.
The company also formed a Limited Liability Partnership, NutraDried LLP, to develop, manufacture, market and sell all-natural cheese snack products in the US under the Moon Cheese brand.
Nestec, based in Vevey, Switzerland, offers commercial research and consulting services to Nestlé and its subsidiaries. It also provides scientific research and technological development services.
