Meadow Foods, the UK’s largest independently-owned dairy group and a supplier of ingredients to the food industry, has acquired Roil Foods Limited.

Meadow Foods said the announcement is a further step toward fulfilling its strategic objective of growing the business through organic expansion and acquisition.

Roil Foods, based in Wrexham, Wales, is a manufacturer of edible dairy based oils, including organic AMF, concentrated butter and butter ghee, which Meadow Foods does not currently produce.

The ability to manufacture new products, in addition to Meadow Food’s AMF and butter, will enhance the company’s offering to customers globally as well as expand the packaging range offered.

Growth after investment

Mark Chantler, chief executive of Meadow Foods, said the acquisition will further strengthen the company’s portfolio of dairy ingredients and marks the next step in the delivery of growth plans for the business.

“There are obvious operational synergies between the businesses and we’re excited by the opportunity to extend our range and reach into new markets and product lines,” Chantler said.

The announcement follows a strategic investment into Meadow Foods in 2016 from Paine Schwartz Partners, a global food and agribusiness investment company, which was intended to support Meadow Foods’ strategy to grow through organic expansion and acquisitions.

Meadow Foods currently employs more than 275 people and handles in excess of 650m liters of milk each year from more than 650 farmer suppliers across the UK.
