French dairy cooperative Laïta, and its subsidiary Epi Ingredients, have brought together all their nutrition-focused activities under a new division, ESI Nutrition.

Mathieu Lucot, marketing manager at Epi Ingredients, said the new division strengthens the company’s position in the global nutrition market.

“With this dedicated team and specialized resources in place, we are a reliable partner for companies operating in various areas of the nutrition sector who are looking for steady support in launching successful new products under their own brands,” Lucot said.

ESI Nutrition can provide products, both in bulk and individual packaging, ready for retail.

Wide portfolio

The company’s nutrition portfolio includes Stage 1 to Stage 3 baby formulas (standard and premium); pre-packaged liquid milk for infant and expecting mothers; food for Special Medical Purpose (FSMP) such as pediatric drinks, gelled water for dysphagia patients, etc.; baby food products such as UHT yogurt-like desserts and puddings; and high protein drinks and puddings customized to the specific needs of adult nutrition (diabetic, undernourished, recovery).

Lucot added, “With a production site dedicated to UHT processing and aseptic filling and our new drying tower with canning capabilities both following a GMP Pharma approach, we can offer safe products in a variety of shelf-stable formats and sizes with high quality packaging.”

He said the long shelf-life component is increasingly important as more and more consumers are seeking on-the-go options to enhance their daily nutrition.

Top 10 European cooperative

Laïta is one of the top 10 dairy cooperatives in Europe and oversees the entire milk collection process from its 2,750 local dairy farms, all located in Western France no more than 100km from the plant that processes their milk.

The company produces 100,000 MT of dairy ingredients each year, and has four industrial facilities specialized in drying, extrusion, membrane separation, fermentation and dry-blending, as well as an applications lab and pilot plant.
