The event takes place in Philadelphia, US, near DuPont’s Industrial Biosciences (IB) which recently opened the doors of its renovated global business headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware.
The center, known as Building E353, is part of DuPont’s Experimental Station, for technologies including nylon to DuPont Kevlar to Tyvek and IB’s own renewably sourced Sorona.
“Our newly-opened plant is the centerpiece of a long-standing partnership that will help bring a greater variety of higher performance, sustainably sourced biomaterials into the lives of consumers,” said Michael Saltzberg, global business director, Biomaterials,
“We are especially excited about what this means for new biobased plastic packaging materials.”
Saltzberg will speak about the future of biomaterials in his presentation ‘The Sleeping Giant Awakens: 2,5-Furandicarboxylic Acid’ on July 17.
He will talk about the status of commercialization of FDME (Furan Dicarboxylic Methyl Ester) and DuPont’s progress on producing polyethylene furanoate (PEF) and polytrimethylene furanoate (PTF) for packaging applications from FDME.

Archer Daniels Midland
Earlier this year, DuPont IB and Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM) opened the world’s first FDME pilot production facility, turning fructose from cornstarch into FDME, which can be used to create a variety of biobased chemicals and materials.
At the conference, Todd Sutton, president, DuPont Tate & Lyle Bio Products, will talk about sustainable and performance-based bioplastics and how his company is addressing the challenges of bringing biobased materials to market in his session; ‘Sustainable and Performance Based Bioplastics and Biopolymers’.
Vincent Sewalt, senior director, Product Stewardship & Regulatory, DuPont IB, will showcase the diversity of applications for DuPont enzymes on a food-focused panel: “GRAS Conclusions: An Uncompromising Approach to Facilitate Market Access for Safe Food Ingredients from Industrial Biotechnology.”
