Both Arla and Valio said they are pleased to have reached an agreement.
Valio and Arla say they have reached an amicable settlement after Arla filed a suit in 2014 demanding compensation for Valio selling milk on the wholesale market below the cost of production.

The claim was based on an investigation by the Competition and Consumer Agency on pricing of basic milk, which resulted in the Supreme Administrative Court ultimately ruling on Valio's dominant position.

In 2016, the courts took the view that Valio had underpriced its milk in an effort to force Arla out of the Finnish market.

Valio's managing director Annikka Hurme said the legal process is not the best way of solving disputes for anyone.

“We are pleased that the process has been completed. The content of the settlement agreement is, of course, a matter between Valio and Arla."

Kai Gyllström, CEO of Arla Finland, said Arla was pleased to have reached an agreement.

"We hope that we can now leave this behind and concentrate on continuing to do what is best for the Finnish dairy market and consumers."

Valio and Arla said they will not provide any further details on the agreement.
