The New Year has started with a host of new products in the dairy aisles.

Ben & Jerry’s adds two new flavors

In the UK, Ben & Jerry’s has added two new flavors to the Moo-phoria range.

Rolling into freezers nationwide, Salted Caramel Brownie and Chocolate Cookies & Cream are made with Fairtrade-certified ingredients and each 100ml serving contains 124-132 calories. The additions join existing flavors, Caramel Cookie Fix and Chocolate Cookie Dough.

Ben & Jerry’s new Moo-phoria flavors are:

• Salted Caramel Brownie, featuring caramel ice cream with chunks of brownie pieces and a salted caramel swirl. 124 calories per 100ml serving

• Chocolate Cookies & Cream –chocolate ice cream with chocolatey cookie sandwich pieces. 129 calories per 100ml serving

New Ben & Jerry’s Moo-phoria light ice cream has an RRP of £6.00.

Northern Ireland company doubles yogurt sales

A Northern Ireland-based food-to-go firm has grown its yogurt sales by 200% in a year, after forming a partnership with Clandeboye Estate.

Around Noon, headquartered in Newry, entered into a partnership with north Down-based Clandeboye Estate late in 2017 to produce yogurt for its growing range of products.

In recent months, a complete review of the range was completed, and a new packaging system rolled out to extend the shelf life of the range.

Now, a year into the partnership, the two firms have grown business significantly and Around Noon supplies its range of yoghurts and filled “top hats” – fruit compote and granola – to customers and major brands operating across the UK and Ireland.

Shaken Udder signs deal with Muscle Food

UK milkshake producer, Shaken Udder, is looking to target fitness fans in 2019, with a new contract to supply Muscle Food, the online sport and nutrition retailer.

From this month, Muscle Food customers will be able to purchase Shaken Udder's new portable 330ml Easy Pak cartons in Chocolush and new Ooh La Latte flavors.

Muscle Food will enable Shaken Udder to reach a new sector of potential consumers and promote its milkshakes to fitness enthusiasts.

Andy Howie, co-founder of Shaken Udder, said, “We’re delighted that our Easy Pak milkshakes are now available to Muscle Foods customers. Both flavors contain less than 5% added sugar and are made with real Arabica coffee beans or Belgian chocolate and fresh British milk.”

Shaken Udder Easy Pak cartons contain no artificial colors or flavors, include calcium and vitamin B12, and are also gluten free and suitable for vegetarians. The Easy Pak 330ml carton is also re-seable, and can also be stored in ambient conditions and chilled prior to drinking for extra convenience.

Lithuanian Magija appears in Tesco

Magija is the latest offering from Lithuanian dairy company Zemaitijos Pienas.

The curd-based dessert bar has just won its first listing in Tesco in the UK. The creation combines a chocolate glaze over fresh, chocolate infused curd that also contains real chocolate chips.

The production of Magija involves a technique that aerates the curd, creating a fluffier end product.

Magija has long been sold across Eastern Europe, where it is used as a snack or sweet pudding.

Magija contains no artificial additives or flavoring. In addition to the chocolate variety, retailers can select from a choice of flavors and fillings from vanilla to toffee, coconut and caramelized hazelnuts.

The typical average retail price is between 0.70p and £1.00.

Zemaitijos Pienas has recently opened a UK head office and extended its sales team to support UK retailers and outlets interested in Magija. A full cross-section of cheese products are also available including the full range of hard cheese Dziugas, Germanto cheese cubes, Pik-Nik peelable cheese sticks.

Camel milk ice cream hits ASDA

Also in the UK, UAE company Camelicious has introduced its camel milk ice cream to UK chain ASDA. The ice cream tubs are available nationally. Flavors available are vanilla, strawberry, chocolate, pistachio and hazelnut, and have an RSP of £2.49/125ml).

Flavored Coffee Creamers

In the US, Baileys Irish Cream has reimagined its line of non-alcoholic coffee creamers by adding more dairy cream. The flavors Original Irish Cream, Vanilla Cream and Mocha Mudslide are being re-introduced as part of the Baileys licensing agreement with Danone North America and Diageo.

The packaging has been refreshed along with the recipe for a closer focus on the Baileys brand. The creamers hit grocery shelves nationwide this month.

We asked for feedback from consumers and worked closely with our product innovation team to craft a rich and creamy coffee experience with the new recipe.

Horizon Organic High Protein Milk

Horizon is expanding its milk offering with the market’s first multi-serve organic protein milk, Horizon Organic High Protein. Every 8oz serving contains 12g of organic protein and provides 50% more protein than traditional dairy milk.

Christina Finkel, senior director of marketing for Horizon Organic, said, "We realized that protein is a top priority for people when it comes to milk – yet no organic protein milk option was available. Protein helps to fuel your day and supports healthy muscles, and our newest organic protein milk is meant to help meet that need for dairy drinkers."

The added protein comes from “organic milk protein concentrate made from high-quality complete proteins naturally found in milk”​ and is available in Reduced Fat Chocolate, Reduced Fat Plain and Vitamin D.

Califia Farms Oatmilk

Califia Farms is a staple in the plant-based milk alternative category in the US, and is now adding a line of oatmilk products to its portfolio. Oat Barista Blend launches in February and Unsweetened Oatmilk launches in April. The beverages will be made with North American whole grain, gluten free oats.

Califia’s Barista Blends are designed for partnerships in the specialty coffee trade, while the Unsweetened Oatmilk in Califia’s signature curved bottles is designed for at-home consumption.

Silk Oat Yeah Oatmilk

Plant-based pioneer Silk is also getting into the oats game with its new Oat Yeah oatmilk in the US. The beverages are non-GMO Project Verified and Vegan Action certified, as well as free from dairy, soy, cholesterol and artificial colors and flavors.

Nikita McKinney, senior brand manager for Silk, said, "Oat Yeah oatmilk is a great choice to help you make progress in the new year—whether you are nut-free, dairy-free or simply a flavor enthusiast. The creamy texture and delicious taste will have you shouting, 'oat yeah!'"

All three flavors-- The Plain One, The Vanilla One and The Chocolate One--hit shelves this month in a half-gallon carton at major retailers like Target, Walmart, Publix and Sprouts.

Siggi’s lands in Canada

After debuting in the US in 2005, Siggi’s Icelandic skyr yogurt is officially launching in Canada. The yogurt is made with all-natural ingredients and is high in protein and low in sugar. The Canadian distribution of Siggi’s will be manufactured by Parmalat Canada using 100% Canadian milk.

Founder Siggi Hilmarsson set out to design a yogurt that more closely matched the snack he had in his childhood, thicker and less sweet than what’s found in the US. The recipe is formulate without any preservatives, thickeners, artificial sweeteners, artificial flavors or artificial colors.

"We know Canadians value authentic nutrition, so we're excited for them to discover Siggi's yogurt. Our yogurts follow the authentic recipe using 100% natural ingredients. They are also low in sugar and high in protein, so Canadians can feel great about eating Siggi's throughout the day. Siggi's is also great to cook with and is a great substitute for sour cream or regular yogurt in many of your favourite recipes,"​ Hilmarsson said.

Siggi’s will be available throughout Canada at retailers like Whole Foods Market (BC), Real Canadian Superstore, Co-op, Extra Foods, Metro, Longo's, Highland Farms, Commisso's Fresh Foods, Coppa's Fresh Market and Al Premium Foods.

The initial launch will include 500g tubs in flavors 0% Plain, 0% Vanilla, 2% Strawberry, 2% Blueberry and 2% Black Cherry.

Truly Yours yogurt snacks

Irish company Truly Yours is introducing a new yogurt snack to the European market. The grab and go granola/yogurt snack pack contains 50g granola with 100ml yogurt in four flavor combos: fruity granola with strawberry yogurt, natural granola with peach and passionfruit yogurt, nutty granola with cherry yogurt and seed granola with raspberry yogurt.

Joe O’Connor of Truly Yours said the products are, “a perfect solution to a simple healthy breakfast and convenient all day snack.”

“With [busy lives] has come a demand for on the go food, but food that is better for us is now more the norm in order to give us the right energy.  We believe our granola/yoghurt combo fills that gap in the market.”

Halo Top new dairy and non-dairy flavors

Low-calorie ice cream brand Halo Top Creamery brought back a few favorite seasonal flavors this month with permanent status, and also expanded its popular non-dairy line in the US.

Peanut Butter & Jelly, Blueberry Crumble and Peaches & Cream will now be available year-round in the dairy portfolio after successful past seasonal runs.

The new coconut-based, non-dairy additions are Peanut Butter & Jelly, Mint Fudge Cookie and Chocolate Hazelnut. All will be rolling out to retailers nationwide throughout February.

Doug Bouton, president and COO of Halo Top, said, “We always want to keep our flavor lineup new and fresh for our fans, so we are excited to launch these new additions to our core dairy and non-dairy sets. The seasonal dairy pints made sense since fans responded so well to them, and we think the new non-dairy flavors could be our best yet.”

Ben & Jerry’s Cookie Dough Cores

Ben & Jerry’s has found a fresh way to offer up its all-time popular flavor: Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. Three new iterations of the dough are launching in core form this month in the US.

Ben & Jerry’s already manufactures seven core-style flavors, including Brownie Batter Core and Salted Caramel Core.

--Sweet Like Sugar Cookie Dough Core has sweet cream ice cream with a hint of almond flavor and shortbread cookies and cherry ice cream with cherries and a sugar cookie dough core.

--Wake & "No Bake" Cookie Dough Core is vanilla ice cream with peanut butter cookies, peanut butter ice cream with fudge chips and a no bake cookie dough core.

Craig Koskiniemi, a Ben & Jerry’s Flavor Guru, said, "We wanted to give our fans a chance to expand their love of our cookie dough flavors and offer both classic and entirely new combinations. In trials, our fans clamored for the new Cookie Dough Core flavors."

Talenti Gelato organic collection

US gelato brand Talenti is going organic with a four-flavor line of USDA certified organic pints. It is also adding one flavor to its existing Crafted with Less Sugar collection.

--Organic Ginger Matcha is made with green tea and ginger steeped in organic cream, blended with Japanese Matcha.

--Organic Oak-Aged Vanilla is made with organic, slow-cooked Madagascan vanilla gelato, elevated with notes of oak.
--Organic Chocolate Mousse is made with organic dark chocolate gelato whipped with egg for a fluffy texture, swirled with fudge.
--Organic Brown Butter Caramel is made with organic caramel gelato swirled with buttery dulce de leche.

--Crafted with Less Sugar Lemon Bar is steeped in lemon zest with tangy lemon curd and shortbread bits, sweetened with monk fruit juice.

Ahead of the spring season in the US, International Delight is launching a limited edition coffee creamer with Peeps.
