It was a busy couple of days for Dutch dairy cooperative FrieslandCampina last week, as it first announced the sale of its cream liqueur company Creamy Creation to Wagram Equity Partners, and a day later, its cheese wholesaler Zijerveld, part of FrieslandCampina Dairy Essentials, took over W. Bakker Kaashandel B.V.

The Dutch investment company Wagram Equity Partners (Wagram) will become the new owner of cream liqueur manufacturer Creamy Creation in Rijkevoort, the Netherlands.

The transaction includes the production of cream liqueurs in Rijkevoort and a US sales office in Paramus, New Jersey. FrieslandCampina Ingredients said it wants to focus more on nutritional and functional solutions with its ingredients. It was also agreed between parties that Wagram will start producing canned cream for FrieslandCampina in Rijkevoort.

Creamy Creation, which was established in 1979 and has 84 employees,  will continue to develop and sell cream liqueurs.

Wagram Equity Partners is an independent investment company with a long-term perspective. Its business is making investments in private companies through controlling ownership positions. Wagram will focus on the long-term growth of Creamy Creation.

The transaction is subject to the usual conditions, including the required regulatory approvals; FrieslandCampina said it expects to complete the transaction in the last quarter of this year.

Cheese acquisition

Cheese wholesaler Zijerveld, part of FrieslandCampina Dairy Essentials, has acquired W. Bakker Kaashandel B.V. The company specializes in cutting and packaging cheese. The activities will be integrated into Zijerveld.

Sander Koutstaal, director of Zijerveld, said, “As an autonomous cheese wholesaler within FrieslandCampina, we serve our customers with advice aimed at growing the total category of fresh cheese. Based on the specific formula principles of our customers, we develop innovative, customised concepts.

“A fast, excellent translation to the store and online is of great importance. This requires flexibility and excellent logistics services. The cutting and packaging activities of W. Bakker Kaashandel B.V. fit in with our ambition to serve our customers even better.”

Bakker Kaashandel, established in 1928, is based in Bodegraven in the Netherlands and has approximately 80 employees.

Zijerveld serves both national and international retail, out-of-home, on-line, wholesale businesses and industrial clients. The product range includes North–Holland cheese, farmhouse cheese, goat’s cheese and foreign cheese.

The acquisition amount has not been disclosed.
