Finnish dairy cooperative Valio is launching new products for the fall, as well as increasing the use of recycled plastic for its snacks and cheese.

The company has added vegetarian Valio MiFU steaks, which are made of pea protein and rapeseed oil. Valio MiFU vegetarian steaks can be fried, baked in the oven or grilled.

Valio Oltermanni cheese is now available in a snack form. The cheese pieces are individually packaged. They can be kept at room temperature for up to eight hours, and the individually-packed pieces are sold in a resealable bag.

Valio Luonnonjogurtti+ mango and papaya, and apple and pear are natural yogurts in drinkable form. They contain no added sugar, sweeteners, fruit juice or honey.

The company also announced that its Valio Oddlygood oat-based yogurt alternatives and Valio Oddlygood Barista coffee oat drink are now made from gluten-free Finnish oats. At the start of the summer, the cooperative launched a smaller-sized (0.75 liter) Valio Oddlygood Barista oat drink, which is available from the cold shelf in shops.

New additions also include Valio Jäätelöfabriikki’s two new ice creams – in mocha and toffee, and lemon and liquorice flavors – as well as AURA gingerbread biscuits.

There is also Valio Herkku plum mousse, as well as Valio’s plum and cinnamon quark for baking.

Valio AURA Gold, Valio Hienoin Alppi Kreivi and Valio Hienoin Juhla Cheddar cheeses have also been introduced for the Christmas season.

Valio Viola AURA cream cheese has also been launched.

The cooperative said it is determined to reduce the amount of plastic used for packaging and to increase the proportion of recycled plastic used. All existing packaging is recyclable.

During the fall, however, Valio said it will discontinue the use of covers with plastic spoons for Valio PROfeel quarks and puddings, reducing the amount of plastics used in these packages by 44%.

The company also announced it is also making a partial shift to recycled plastic packaging for all Valio cheese slices, and the overall plastic content is also being reduced. More than 55% of packaging material is made from recycled plastic in Finland. Thinner packaging saves 70,000 kg of plastic per year.
