Ingredient supplier Ausnutria Dairy Ingredients, based in Ommen in The Netherlands, has updated its goat milk ingredients brand CBM as part of a complete overhaul.

The brand also has a new look, new packaging and website.

In recent years, Ausnutria Dairy Ingredients said, there has been an increase in the use of goat milk in infant food or follow-on formula products. Two reasons for this growth are the high nutritional quality and the easy digestibility of goat milk.

The nutritional profile of goat milk is attractive not only because it is a complete protein source, the company said, as it contains all essential amino acids with a high DIAAS, but also because it contains a high level of oligosaccharides, which can act as a prebiotic, and it has naturally higher nucleotide levels, important for cell metabolism.

The digestibility of goat milk is influenced by the protein composition, where both the casein and whey proteins in goat milk have been reported to be easier to digest than their cow’s milk equivalents. The company said this is most likely since the casein profile in goat milk, with a high amount of ß-casein and a low amount of αs1-casein, produces a looser curd in the stomach after ingestion. In addition, the specific structure of the ß-lactoglobulin in goat whey has also been reported to be less resistant to digestion.

With the introduction of CBM Goat Power, a range of protein-rich ingredients and (custom) blended concepts derived from Dutch goat milk, Ausnutria Dairy Ingredients said it is no longer just infants that can benefit from the digestibility and nutritional value of goat milk.

As goat milk proteins contain relative high levels of branched chain amino acids and in specific leucine known to support muscle protein synthesis, it makes them suitable for all types of sports and lifestyle nutrition products. The availability of protein ingredients opens up new innovation possibilities in applications such as instant drinks, meal replacement products, nutritional bars, petfood, snacks, baked goods and desserts, according to the company.

Organic versions of the CBM goat milk products full cream and skimmed are also available. The Goat Power range includes skimmed goat protein powders and a whey protein concentrate WPC50%.
