Starbucks and Nestlé are launching Starbucks Creamers, eyeing up the potential of a category that is projected to top $7.8bn in the US by 2023.

The creamers will be available in caramel, white chocolate and cinnamon dolce flavors – all inspired by beverages available in Starbucks cafes (caramel macchiato, white chocolate mocha and cinnamon dolce latte).

The creamers, which took less than a year to create from inception to shelf, mark the fourth product platform since Starbucks and Nestlé formed a global coffee alliance in August 2018 (the alliance covers Starbucks packaged goods and foodservice products outside Starbucks coffee shops). Earlier this year, Starbucks and Nestlé launched a range of 24 coffee products, including whole bean and roast and ground, alongside Starbucks capsules for use in Nespresso and Nescafe Dolce Gusto machines.

Nestlé has been working in the creamer category for more than 50 years, but this is the first entry for the Starbucks brand in the category.

Daniel Jhung, President of Beverage, Nestlé USA, said: “Nestlé has been a leader in the creamer category since launching Coffee mate in 1961 and we continue to innovate and help drive category growth.

“In our work with Starbucks through our global coffee alliance, we saw the opportunity to introduce Starbucks Creamers as a new way for consumers to enjoy the Starbucks café flavors they know and love from the comforts of their home.”

Duncan Moir, president, global channel development at Starbucks, added: “We know that Starbucks customers are passionate about their coffee and with Starbucks Creamers we are delighted to give them another way to enjoy their favorite Starbucks Experience and flavors at home and outside of our cafes.”

Starbucks creamers will be available from August in the refrigerated aisle and via select online retailers.
