The deal is effective June 1, 2016.

The addition of Black River Cheese, in eastern Ontario, builds on Gay Lea Foods’ existing cheese operations in Hamilton and Madoc, Ontario.

Gay Lea Foods has also launched two flavored-goat-cheddar cheeses under the Ivanhoe brand.

In January, Gay Lea announced that it had acquired shares in Mariposa Dairy, which produces goat and sheep cheese using Ontario goat and sheep milk for the Canadian and US markets.

Gay Lea Foods produces a wide variety of cheeses for retail and foodservice under its current cheese brands, Salerno and Ivanhoe.
