Kerry Foods’ Yollies ‘yoghurt on a stick’ wins UK Packaging Award

Kerry Foods and Amcor is celebrating after its Yollies ‘yoghurt on a stick’ designed for children’s lunchboxes, wins Highly Commended in Best Packaging of a New Product at the UK Packaging Awards.

Amcor’s easy peel and release film technology allows Yollies to come out of the pod and for children to eat them without making a mess.

Stay-fresh pod shape

Karen Quirchove, marketing and communications manager, Fresh Dairy & Capsules, Amcor Flexibles EMEA, told DairyReporter the pods were launched in July this year and took almost two years to develop, which included testing with both the customer and machine supplier.

The stay-fresh pod shape is distinctive helping to build a Yollies’ brand personality as the laminate is transformed to form the Yollies’ shape. 

Amcor worked closely with its suppliers and its partner Kerry Foods, recommending the appropriate specifications to meet the team’s product needs and trialling materials with suitable machinery​,” said Quirchove.

Soft cheese, oils and dressings

The technology has application across different food sectors and beyond, including soft cheese, oils and dressings and condiments​.”

Colette Sheehan, dairy packaging manager, Yollies, Kerry Foods, said Amcor worked with Kerry Foods’ designer to share its proprietary film knowledge.

The pod technology met all of our objectives and has contributed to the success of Yollies​,” she added.

Kerry Foods first launched Yollies in 2014, an off shoot from Cheestrings, where it was stretching the brand of yoghurts beyond its natural category. 

The products are available in strawberry and raspberry flavours and each lolly comes in a protective pod featuring a character such as pirates, Vikings or scuba divers.
