Four-pint plastic milk bottle development ‘world’s lightest’ - Nampak
UK-based Nampak Plastics claims to have created the world’s lightest four-pint high density polyethylene (HDPE) bottle – an innovation it believes could herald environmental improvements for the British milk sector.

The bottle, which is the latest “incarnation” ​of Nampak’s award-winning Infini bottle, weighs just 32g – 20% lighter than standard 40g four-pint bottles currently found in supermarkets. The bottle is currently undergoing trials with a number of Nampak’s customers, the company added.

Nampak has claimed that 15,000 tonnes of resin would be saved per year if it was move its entire 2bn bottle annual output to the new bottle.

According to Nampak Plastics managing director Eric Collins, feedback on the Infini bottle from British milk processors and retailers has been “extremely positive.”

“However, at Nampak we’re always aiming to push innovation boundaries and our environmental leadership credentials as far as possible. With this in mind, we believe that we’ve reached a new pinnacle with the creation of a 32g four-pint Infini bottle,”​ said Collins.

“With HDPE lightweight savings of 20% on the industry’s current bottle, it’s greener and more affordable, and performs extremely well in all aspects of the dairy supply chain.”
