Having worked with Chinese authorities to implement a new dairy plant registration requirement for import suppliers since May 2014, USDEC says China is now evaluating the results of plant audits conducted over the summer.
“The situation is a perfect example of the time and effort required to meet proliferating overseas regulatory requirements and facilitate continued US dairy export growth,” the council says.
Many countries, especially those in Asia, have been rewriting their food safety laws and tightening their geographical indications systems or contemplating nutritional or labelling regulations.
Turkish health certificate revision and a plant registration system in Korea will come to prominence in 2016, USDEC believes.
