Sealed Air has developed a soft vacuum packaging system that completely removes air without damaging a cheese’s porous structure, whilst protecting the flavor and appearance of the cheese.

The new CRYOVAC brand SVS45 also uses up to 50% less energy compared to systems delivering similar levels of output.  Plus, Sealed Air said, the continuous flow and sealing system will help to improve companies’ productivity.

There is no vacuum on the cheese because the machine gently and completely extracts air from the pack, preserving cheese quality, texture and taste.

Sealed Air said the CRYOVAC SVS45 is easy to install, integrating packaging into continuous and automated cheese making processes, is fully automated, meaning it is an operator-free packaging process, and also offers economic benefits through low maintenance costs, energy savings, and compressed air savings.

The equipment can pack cheese straight from brine in wet conditions, and sealing in the middle helps equalize the tension of the shrink bag.

The company said there is no limit to the cheese size and shape, as the SVS45 can work with consumer portions to large industry formats (500g to 25kg).

For throughput, linear speed ranges from 5m to 12m per minute, with product per minute output defined by linear speed divided by bag’s width. For Euroblock/5.3kg, this would equate to 20 to 40 products per minute.
