Valio to sell Russian operations to Velkom

Finnish dairy company Valio has completed negotiations on the divestment of its Russian operations. Valio will sell the operations to Velkom Group. The transaction will take place immediately.

Oddlygood Global, which aims to be a leader in plant-based products, has closed its first round of financing, with Mandatum Asset Management investing €25m ($28m) in the company, which was spun off from Valio earlier this year.

China recovery boosts Valio 2020 financials

Valio Group net sales in 2020 were €1.808bn (US$2.2bn), up 1.2% on the previous year. Domestic net sales decreased by 0.9%, and international net sales rose 4.3%.

Valio issues 2019 financials

Finnish dairy cooperative Valio Group’s net sales were €1,787m ($1.98bn) in 2019, representing 3% growth from the previous year.

Since the beginning of 2018, Valio has paid a sustainability bonus of two cents per liter to dairy farmers who have committed to higher standards of animal welfare.

From mid-September, Finnish dairy cooperative Valio has announced its one-liter and 1.75-liter milk, in its skim, low-fat, semi-skim and whole milk variants, will come from free-range cows.
