DMK Group’s plant-based additions
Germany’s largest dairy cooperative presented new plant-based spreads that will form part of its Milram brand in April 2023. Based on coconut fat and containing pea protein, the spreads will come in 155g K-3 pots with separable paper sleeves. There will be three flavors – natural, herbs, and sweet pepper. DMK says plant-based product are a ‘huge trend’ in Germany and there’s strong consumer demand for savory curd, as cheese spreads are also known in the European country. The co-op has found that 40.3% of Milram buyers already buy milk alternatives, higher than the German average.

Also highlighted was the co-op’s Velander vegan cheese, which was served hot and cold in wraps and sandwiches on stand; along with other plant-based Milram products, such as an oat-based fortified cocoa drink, vegan puddings and a rice dessert. In dairy, DMK is targeting busy consumers with 160g porridge packs, suitable for both breakfast on-the-go and as a hot or cold snack. The microwavable packs contain fruit on the bottom and come in plain/natural, strawberry and apple and cinnamon flavors. The porridge contains no gluten and around 4g of protein, 10g of sugar and 2g fat. Other packaging options of up to 1000g are available to suit the food service industry.
