Welsh milk processor Tomlinson’s Dairies has revealed the secret to its success - playing Tom Jones' classics such as 'It's Not Unusual' to cows in the milking parlour.

Lynne King, account manager at Tomlinson’s Dairies, told DairyReporter.com that a number of its dairy farmer suppliers play music by Welsh national treasure Sir Tom Jones and other artists in the parlours during milking.

“The cows are played all sorts of music…but Tom Jones is among their favourites,” she said.

“Being in Wales, Tom Jones was one the first singers that came to mind. It seems appropriate for Welsh cows to listen to Tom Jones.”

According to King, playing during milking helps to create a calm atmosphere for the cows.

“Research has been done that says playing music to cows makes them more relaxed,” she said.

This has led the cows to produce better quality milk in greater quantities, said King.

Minera-based Tomlinson's Dairies, which supplies all ASDA retail stores in Wales, is the only firm to process and bottle Welsh milk in Wales.
