Chinese authorities are investigating reports that a business unit of China Modern Dairy sold milk cows that tested positive for bovine tuberculosis (bTB) and brucellosis.
China Modern Dairy has played down rumours of a takeover by “a third party” – assumed to be Mengniu – but has confirmed that talks are ongoing with the unnamed company in regards to the “possible disposal of certain assets.”
Chinese dairy Mengniu has further extinguished rumours that it is in talks to acquire milk supplier China Modern Dairy in a clarifying statement filed with the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong.
